MENTAL HEALTH CAMPAIGN

The Issue

Mental health at Harvard was a hushed topic. Especially in minority communities, students felt uncertain of how or where to seek help. When a friend of mine took his life sophomore year, it was time for change.

The Plan

We created a social media campaign to spark conversation and awareness. We started with 35 Asian-American male students at Harvard who would simultaneously change their profile photos with messages of mental health advocacy.

The Tagline

We're not alone. Reach out.

The caption

People suffer silently. Especially in the Asian American community, issues of mental health are sidestepped and ignored. Reaching out and asking for help is not a sign of weakness: it’s a sign of strength.

We are not alone.

The Results

The campaign met with overwhelming positive sentiment. The campaign amassed thousands of likes, was featured in The Harvard Crimson, and led to the formation of the undergraduate-led AAPI Mental Health Task Force. Before we knew it, others wanted to change their profile photo as well.

We showed the complexities of mental health while creating a message infused with hope.
